Mission Objective
The pharmacy department plays a crucial role in supporting the organization’s mission by providing essential pharmacotherapy services. This includes delivering high-quality medications, promoting rational use of medicines, and optimizing treatment outcomes through effective patient counseling. The pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist by preparing prescriptions, ensuring proper dispensing per physician instructions, and supporting inventory management to maintain medication availability in the clinic. Additionally, the technician is responsible for maintaining organized shelves following the FEFO (First Expired, First Out) system and contributing to community health activities.
Key Responsibilities
- General Support:
- Review and validate prescriptions to minimize medication errors, ensuring accuracy.
- Dispense medications based on prescribed orders and assist with routine stock checks, noting any expiring medications.
- Organize and stack drugs and consumables according to the FEFO guidelines, ensuring stock levels remain within acceptable limits.
- Escort patients to the dispensing area as needed and maintain cleanliness and organization in the dispensing area.
- Ensure controlled substances are stored securely in a locked poison cupboard.
- Assist with other clinic functions and document patient and family education.
- Engagement and Responsibilities:
- Perform group tasks efficiently and within deadlines.
- Assist with receiving medications from suppliers and vendors, ensuring proper inventory management.
- Maintain updated pharmacy checklists and manage insurance claims to ensure timely and accurate processing, reconciliation, and submission.
Required Knowledge and Qualifications
- A minimum of a Diploma in Pharmacy.
- At least two years of progressive experience in pharmacy practice, ideally in both private and public sectors. Experience with public health systems is a plus.
- Must be a registered member of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) with an active practicing license.
