Position Overview

CTG is seeking to hire a technical support staff member for its operations in Nigeria. The role involves managing cold chain equipment and logistics to ensure efficient vaccine storage and transportation, overseeing the functionality of cold chain systems, and supporting vaccine delivery up to the last mile.

Role Objectives

  • Respond to emerging cold chain challenges in immunization, with a focus on emergency situations and ensuring cost-effectiveness.
  • Assist in developing and implementing annual and quarterly state work plans for EPI, with an emphasis on vaccine management, cold chain logistics, and alignment with national strategies and state-level logistics workplans.
  • Support the execution of EPI state work plans, ensuring alignment with vaccine management goals, cold chain systems, and monitoring tools for tracking progress.
  • Facilitate regular cold chain inventory, gap analysis, and ensure readiness for installations and ongoing maintenance.
  • Oversee the use of LMIS and Thrive 360 systems to ensure timely reporting and data analysis for informed decision-making.
  • Assist in last-mile vaccine delivery, tracking wastage rates, and implementing activities to reduce vaccine loss.
  • Conduct field visits to assess progress and resolve issues in immunization delivery at the local government area (LGA) and community levels.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of state cold chain equipment management and logistics standards, ensuring functionality and compliance with Effective Vaccine Management (EVM) standards.
  • Advocate for addressing equipment maintenance gaps, including repairs, generator functionality, and temperature monitoring systems.
  • Support the implementation of logistics plans for polio and other immunization campaigns, ensuring alignment with local and national strategies.
  • Act as the State Technical Advisor for cold chain management, overseeing vaccine delivery and distribution for immunization programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support capacity-building efforts for zonal and state Cold Chain Officers, including training on new cold chain technologies and equipment management.
  • Facilitate the transfer of knowledge on cold chain and logistics management to local officers, ensuring systems are in place for ongoing needs assessments and training.
  • Conduct bottleneck analysis to identify and address issues related to vaccine stock, cold chain operations, and immunization coverage.
  • Ensure efficient use of digital tools for cold chain and vaccine management, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
  • Report on stock status, temperature monitoring, and vaccine utilization, providing regular updates on cold chain systems and improvements.
  • Submit detailed work plans and progress reports to supervisors, documenting achievements and challenges.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as basic sciences, pharmacy, health management, engineering, or physical sciences.
  • A Master’s degree in public health, pharmacy, health sciences, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience, including a minimum of 1 year in providing technical support for immunization, cold chain, or logistics management.
  • Experience in managing cold chain systems for vaccines or medical supplies is a significant advantage.
  • Fluency in English and proficiency in one of the major Nigerian languages is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and team collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural and international environment, with experience in supply chain management, inventory tracking, and logistics operations.

Reporting

This role reports directly to the line manager, with regular progress reports submitted monthly. The consultant is expected to provide a comprehensive assignment report at the end of the contract period.
