Job Summary

We are looking for an Extension Officer to support farmers and improve poultry farming practices. This role involves direct engagement with farmers to provide education, training, and on-site assistance aimed at enhancing poultry production systems. The Extension Officer will work closely with farmers to optimize their practices and contribute to the overall productivity and profitability of their operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regularly visit farmers to provide guidance and support on poultry farming techniques.
  • Educate farmers on best practices in breeding, rearing, health management, and disease control for poultry.
  • Assess current poultry production systems and offer recommendations for improvements in biosecurity, housing, feeding, and waste management.
  • Organize and lead training sessions and workshops on poultry nutrition, feed formulation, and management.
  • Collaborate with farmers to create personalized feeding programs aligned with their production goals and available resources.
  • Monitor farm operations and identify areas where additional support or intervention is needed.
  • Assist the Extension Manager in developing training schedules and creating educational materials and curricula.
  • Help farmers access financial resources, including offering advice on loan applications and financial management.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends and advancements in poultry farming, sharing relevant information with farmers to improve their productivity and profitability.
  • Maintain accurate records of farm profiles, visits, training, and extension services provided.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science, Animal Science, or a related field. A certification in poultry farming or extension services is a plus.
  • At least 2 years of experience in agricultural extension work, ideally in poultry farming.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to educate and train farmers. Excellent problem-solving skills and proficiency in digital tools for record-keeping.
  • Must be based in Kaduna or Zaria.
