Job Description

NewGlobe has built its foundation on being data-driven, using a build-measure-learn methodology to refine every aspect of our service delivery. As a rapidly scaling business, we have an exceptional opportunity to harness the power of data across all facets of our operations. From the academic team using randomized controlled trials to optimize teaching methods, to the school team identifying factors influencing teacher turnover, to our operational teams working to improve service delivery efficiency – the potential is immense.

However, we’ve reached a turning point where we need to elevate our data capabilities. We’re moving beyond simply providing data to our departments and looking to implement more advanced techniques to unlock the full potential of our vast data sets. Although we collect thousands of data points every term from our academies – ranging from lesson engagement times to pupil billing and payment histories – we are yet to fully harness the value hidden within these data sets. To realize this potential, we need to ensure our results are thoroughly tested and reliable.

We are building our Business Intelligence team in Lagos, Nigeria, and the QA Engineer, Business Intelligence role will play a key part in this transformation. This role will focus on ensuring our data aggregation processes are solid, scalable, and ready for future developments.

  • Develop and execute testing plans that combine manual and automated testing, ensuring issues are carefully reported using structured tools and standards.
  • Dive deep into data analysis, ensuring thorough exploration of unexpected or irregular cases beyond just the “happy path” defined by developers, focusing on what the business truly needs.
  • Advocate for a culture of automation and repeatability, particularly in testing ETL processes (e.g., data setup, loading results) and report validation, while ensuring best practices for BI software deployment.
  • Help design, implement, and use monitoring tools to detect and resolve issues, ensuring seamless data integration into data warehouses.
  • Contribute to effective data governance, focusing on data quality, management, policies, business process management, and risk management around business data.
  • Provide technical support to address Business Intelligence-related issues and diagnose problems.
  • Perform regression testing when defects are addressed and changes are made.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field with strong academic performance.
  • At least 4 years of hands-on experience in BI testing, including ETL and reporting.
  • Passion for Business Intelligence and its ability to transform business operations.
  • Quick learner with a curious mindset and a drive for knowledge.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft technologies such as SQL Server, T-SQL, SSIS, and SSRS; open to learning Big Data solutions such as BigQuery, AirByte, DataFlow, ApacheBEAM, and DBT.
  • Functional understanding of data warehouse design and dimensional modeling (star schemas, snowflakes, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of ETL processes.
  • Familiarity with version control, and exposure to continuous delivery and automated testing is a plus.
  • Experience in or an interest in working within lean/agile, results-driven environments.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong communication skills.

  • Flexible hybrid working options.
  • Lead the growth of our engineering team and take on a pivotal role in shaping our future.
