Job Description
The Packaging Development Manager will lead packaging innovation by leveraging market trends to drive strategy and execute end-to-end packaging projects, ensuring technical excellence and driving improvements across materials and processes.
- Leveraging your strong understanding of food product packaging materials, markets, and trends to make recommendations on strategy, direction, and opportunities to innovate.
- Leading the cross functional teams on the execution of all new packaging development projects, NPD from initial brief to project delivery.
- Tracking and managing all packaging development projects, regularly reporting development status to cross functional team, making recommendations for action, and ensuring timely delivery.
- Partnering with plant resources for line trials and external packaging suppliers to realize packaging development goals and identify opportunities to innovate.
- Functioning as a technical expert for packaging materials and packaging systems, providing technical expertise, competitive benchmarks.
- Develop packaging specifications and SOP’s.
- Supporting with qualification of alternative suppliers for current packaging materials to reduce supply chain risk and support audit of packaging materials suppliers.
Requirements
- A minimum of a B.Sc or HND in Food Science and Technology or related fields; a Diploma in Packaging Technology is an advantage.
- At least 6 years of experience in packaging development or R&D within an FMCG company, with a strong understanding of packaging materials, conversion, and machinery.
- Knowledge of food properties and their impact on packaging selection is essential.
- Proven success in delivering packaging development projects is required.
- Key skills include strong computer proficiency, excellent analytical and troubleshooting abilities, project management skills, attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication.
