Description

  • We are seeking a Project Manager to join the Programmes team in Lagos, Nigeria,to lead the implementation of a project aimed at breaking down barriers of access to healthcare for most vulnerable youth constituencies in West Africa and Southeast Asia.
  • This project builds on the existing successful ongoing collaboration between TRF and the Global Fund to further support youth leaders from media and civil society in creating a step change in the public narratives on access to healthcare.  
  • The programme will do this through a series of media and communications skills training, legal capacity building, creation of multimedia outputs, convening to strengthen networks and ongoing tailored support to civil society and media.
  • Please note, this is a fixed term contract until 31st December 2026

About the Role

  • We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead TRF’s continued work with Global Fund to enhance and support the vital role played by youth and young leaders in improving human rights, gender equality and equity in health services for the most vulnerable in society.
  • The project is committed to empowering young leaders and young journalists towards the greater goal of ending the HIV, TB and malaria epidemics.

Project Management:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of project technical, delivery, and contractual obligations
  • Lead the formation and management/coordination of the project team (made up of colleagues across the foundation), and the project’s governance framework.
  • Line manage a project team comprised of internal staff and external consultants
  • Coordinate and drive the input of a range of technical and operational teams within the foundation to deliver high-quality programming, including TRF’s Media Freedom technical advisory team, Trust Law team as well as a range of external technical consultants.
  • Work closely with the Global Fund and other relevant international donors for close project planning and co-developing communications outputs
  • Set up and maintain essential project management tools such as project plan, finance tracker, risk register etc.
  • In consultation with the Global Fund, develop and coordinate implementation of a plan for cascading elements of the project in line with donor requirements.
  • Working closely with your project team organise and deliver project activities in 2 different regions, in addition to working closely with project cohorts from 2020-2024, ensuring timely delivery, quality and effective risk management.
  • Travel internationally, as required, to monitor project implementation and ensure programme quality.

Monitoring and evaluation:

  • With technical support from in-house MEAL Advisor, lead the implementation of the project’s MEAL Framework.
  • Maintain qualitative oversight of planned deliverables.
  • Facilitate the quarterly impact and board reporting of your project into the wider organsiation.
  • Lead on project narrative, impact reporting to donors and internal senior stakeholders, including regular 6-montly reporting to the donor, based on required financial, programmatic and narrative templates.
  • Ensure impact stories are captured for wider project communications.
  • Contribute towards the strengthening of Project Cycle Management approaches and practice in collaboration with senior programme staff.
  • Manage a final project evaluation

Budget Management:

  • Develop detailed understanding of grant budget, and donor compliance.
  • Support your project team in understanding and following TRF finance policies and processes.
  • Effectively manage project finances accurately, within TRF and donor finance policies and procedures.
  • Lead in the monthly and quarterly accounting process for your budget, including monthly accruals and quarterly forecasting.

Technical Advisory, Strategy and Drive:

  • Maintain oversight and up to date knowledge of the political, security, legal and economic context of the project’s thematic and regional areas of focus.
  • Identify, assess and manage risks to effectively to ensure the safety of project stakeholders and staff.
  • Maintain consistent outreach to other actors in the field of media development/ youth engagement/ health development to ensure the project is accurately reflecting the context, building on existing initiatives and reflecting the environmental needs.
  • Facilitate information sharing within the Programmes Team and with others across the Foundation.
  • Closely liaise with projects donors and partners to ensure wider considerations are taken on board
  • Participate in regular exchanges with the Global Fund to review workplans and agreed activities.

Requirements
To be our Project Manager you will likely have:

  • Demonstratable experience of project and/or programme management (5+ years),
  • Demonstratable experience of working with vulnerable youth constituencies to deliver context-sensitive development programmes.
  • Experience of managing disbursed project teams, and a wide range of in-house and external technical consultants to deliver a wide range of deliverables on time and on budget.
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluating the impact of such projects (developing logframes, theories of change, KPIs and reports).
  • Experience in outreach and network development
  • Experience of conducting research in technical project subject area.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work with changing priorities and time pressures.
  • Pro-active and problem-solving attitude, able to take on new or existing projects and drive quality and impact.  
  • Ability to apply context-sensitive approaches to design and implementation of activities.
  • Excellent grant financial acumen and excel skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – able to establish and maintain positive working relationships both internally and externally, with people from diverse backgrounds including under challenging circumstances.
  • Fluency in English.

Desired Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Experience of leading projects focused on vulnerable youth constituencies in West Africa would be a considerable asset.
  • Experience working with global youth movements and advocacy related to HIV, TB and/or malaria would be a considerable asset.
  • Experience of in the media development sector or role linked to human rights field.
  • Knowledge or experience of vulnerable communities and barrier of access to health case would be an asset.
  • Competency in French

Salary
The salary is relative to the charitable sector in Nigeria and will be commensurate with experience.
