Job Overview
Olam is seeking a highly meticulous individual with expertise in quality management to understand customer expectations and translate them into company quality standards. This role is vital in defining quality norms, establishing quality control processes, and ensuring full compliance with company policies. The goal is to foster a culture of consistent, defect-free quality by collaborating with stakeholders, continually developing and implementing quality systems, and training plant personnel.
Strategic Responsibilities
- Quality Systems Development:
Plan and implement quality systems that meet food safety standards in alignment with GFSI guidelines. Build control systems to comply with food safety requirements, including PRPs, and create audit processes for various areas (e.g., factory, market, warehouse).
Conduct root cause analysis for quality deviations, develop corrective action plans, and track compliance with open audit points.
Promote continuous improvement of quality awareness, including sensory evaluation of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products.
Collaborate closely with R&D, manufacturing, and sourcing teams to enhance quality systems and processes. - Laboratory and Vendor Coordination:
Set up and maintain a laboratory to meet testing requirements for incoming, in-process, and finished goods.
Work with external laboratories and calibration agencies for additional testing needs.
Support vendor quality improvement initiatives.
Operational Responsibilities
- Team Development and Training:
Develop and train the team to improve the implementation of best practices in all areas of work. Identify training needs for team members focused on food safety and personal hygiene.
Foster a motivated and skilled team, planning and conducting training sessions on food safety and hygiene practices for all plant staff. - Customer Feedback and Quality Investigation:
Process consumer feedback through direct interaction with customers and stakeholders, providing timely advice on short, medium, and long-term actions through internal systems to address customer concerns and maintain high satisfaction levels.
Investigate quality-related issues, coordinating with stakeholders and vendors to resolve them. Track compliance and report on business risks tied to quality non-conformances. - Regulatory and Project Support:
Liaise with statutory, regulatory, and government agencies as needed.
Assist in the commissioning and start-up of new projects, including conducting IQ, OQ, and PQ for new equipment installations.
Validate quality aspects during scale-up trials, sharing trial reports with all stakeholders to ensure new products meet quality standards. - Process Improvement and Tracking:
Develop cost-effective methods that align with budget and quality requirements.
Establish tracking mechanisms to monitor progress and report on outcomes of quality plan implementation on a daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, and annual basis.
Requirements
- A Master’s degree in Food Technology or an M.Sc. in Food Science.
- 10-15 years of experience in beverage manufacturing.
- Comprehensive knowledge of food safety systems, GMP, GLP, auditing, compliance, food testing (including sensory evaluation), and basic regulatory frameworks.
- Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
