Role Summary:

Husk is looking to hire a Site Surveyor to join its expanding team in Nigeria. The primary goal of this role is to oversee field staff in mapping land boundaries and identifying mini-grid sites, ensuring the selection of optimal villages or sites for mini-grid installations. The role will also involve ensuring that identified sites meet the required criteria for mini-grid implementation. Hands-on experience with engineering tools, GPS, and GIS systems is essential. The ideal candidate should be passionate about addressing Nigeria’s significant energy access challenges. This position offers an opportunity to be part of a growing team revolutionizing rural electrification across Africa and Asia, including countries like India and Nigeria.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support all GIS and site scoping activities across Nigeria and potentially other markets.
  • Collaborate regularly with internal and external stakeholders to identify and select sites.
  • Create maps using GPS, surveying instruments, digital imaging, and satellite imagery.
  • Evaluate land areas for redevelopment potential.
  • Monitor land changes throughout the construction process.
  • Use theodolites, transits, levels, and GPS systems to determine the exact coordinates of key features and land boundaries.
  • Produce and maintain detailed sketches, maps, and reports documenting survey results and certifying work completed.
  • Record survey results, including land shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions.
  • Assess soil resistance and other parameters to evaluate the long-term impact of civil works, particularly for photovoltaic (PV) installations.

Community Engagement:

  • Foster positive relationships with local communities impacted by mini-grid projects.
  • Engage effectively with community leaders, residents, and stakeholders to address concerns and highlight the benefits of the project.

Safety Compliance:

  • Develop and enforce safety protocols for logistics activities related to mini-grid operations, including equipment and material transportation.
  • Coordinate safety training for logistics staff to ensure adherence to safety standards.
  • Conduct regular safety assessments of logistics operations and implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain thorough records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance related to logistics operations.

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of work experience, with a minimum of 1 year in a similar role within the energy, infrastructure, or development sectors.
  • A degree in GIS, Surveying, or a related field from a reputable institution; a postgraduate degree or relevant professional qualifications are a plus.
  • Strong understanding of GIS and surveying capabilities, with the ability to provide timely solutions that benefit the organization.
  • Proficiency in QGIS or ArcGIS, Google Earth, Microsoft Office tools, and project management software such as MS Project and Power BI.
