Role Summary

The Tax Analyst will ensure the company adheres to tax laws and regulations while strategically minimizing tax liabilities. This role involves accurate tax calculations, filing returns, supporting audits, and providing guidance on tax implications of business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Compliance & Filing:

  • Prepare and file accurate, timely returns for:
    • Corporate Income Tax (CIT)
    • Value Added Tax (VAT)
    • Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE)
    • Withholding Tax (WHT)
  • Monitor tax law changes and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Reconcile tax liabilities with general ledger records.

Income Tax Computation:

  • Calculate monthly and annual corporate tax liabilities.
  • Account for deferred tax and ensure accurate financial statement entries.
  • Review computations prepared by external consultants (if applicable).

Tax Planning & Advisory:

  • Assist with tax forecasting and planning to reduce liabilities while maintaining compliance.
  • Assess the tax implications of business deals and contracts.
  • Provide advice on complex tax issues like transfer pricing and withholding tax recovery.

Audit & Tax Authority Support:

  • Prepare schedules and address inquiries during tax audits.
  • Maintain relationships with tax authorities and resolve disputes efficiently.
  • Help prepare objection letters for incorrect assessments or penalties.

Documentation & Record Keeping:

  • Keep detailed tax records for all filing years, ensuring easy access for audits.
  • Update tax payment trackers and reconciliation files regularly.

Collaboration with Stakeholders:

  • Work with finance, accounting, and payroll teams to align tax calculations and journal entries.
  • Advise business units on tax implications of their activities.
  • Partner with external tax consultants for specialized support as needed.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Suggest improvements and automation in tax processes.
  • Engage in tax training and workshops.
  • Contribute to the development of internal tax policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • 2–3 years of tax experience, ideally in corporate or consulting settings.
  • In-depth understanding of local tax laws (CIT, VAT, PAYE, WHT) and IFRS.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and tax/accounting software (e.g., TaxPro Max).
  • Experience with corporate income tax calculations, deferred tax, and reconciliations.
