Job Description
Position Responsibilities
- Conduct research and analysis on emerging technologies relevant to electricity distribution and off-grid energy access, including smart grids, IoT, renewable energy integration, and energy storage systems.
- Evaluate the feasibility and potential impact of new technologies on the operations and customer services of partner DISCOs and off-grid supply systems.
- Collaborate with DISCO leadership and rural electrification agencies to develop and implement an innovation strategy that aligns with organizational goals and responds to industry trends.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and technological advancements to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.
- Lead and manage technology projects from conception through to implementation, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams and stakeholders, facilitating communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
- Design and execute pilot programs to test new technologies and processes in real-world scenarios.
- Analyze pilot results and provide recommendations based on outcomes, including scalability and integration with existing systems.
- Collaborate with internal teams, outcome leads, external partners, and industry leaders to promote a culture of innovation and share best practices.
- Represent Empower Nigeria in industry forums, conferences, and workshops, staying informed about technological advancements and regulatory changes.
- Ensure all technological innovations and applications comply with Nigeria’s energy sector regulations and standards.
- Work closely with compliance and legal teams to address regulatory challenges related to technology deployment.
- Develop training programs to equip DISCO staff and power sector professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge to adopt new technologies and processes.
- Establish metrics to assess the success of technology initiatives and track progress over time.
- Prepare and present reports to senior management on technology projects, innovation trends, and future opportunities.
- Facilitate workshops, coaching sessions, and training programs to foster adaptability and continuous learning.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and guidelines related to technology innovation and deployment.
- Contribute to regular reporting (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual) and monitoring and evaluation tools.
- Share insights and lessons learned with the team to drive continuous improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in technology management, innovation, or related roles within the electricity distribution or utility sector.
- Strong understanding of current and emerging technologies in the energy sector, including smart grid technologies, analytics, and automation.
- Demonstrated experience addressing energy sector challenges in Nigeria.
- Proven project management skills, including leading cross-functional teams and managing technology projects.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Familiarity with industry regulations and standards relevant to electricity distribution and technology innovation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Preferred but Not Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related field.
- Experience designing and implementing programs that promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in the energy sector.
